Apart from leading Australia to the ODI World Cup title, Cummins also led to World Test Championship glory, retaining the vase with a drawn Ashes series in England. Virat Kohli has also got a big reward during this period.
Let us tell you that the success of Pat Cummins' leadership also included the excellence of his bowling as Cummins finished as the sixth-highest wicket-taker across all formats in 2023. In Tests, he was second in the list of wicket-takers behind teammate Nathan Lyon. There were some troublesome knocks with the bat as well. Such as the Edgbaston Test and supporting roles against Afghanistan and South Africa (semi-finals) in the World Cup.
Virat Kohli was chosen as the Men's ODI Cricketer of the Year from India. He had an excellent year with the bat, scoring 1377 runs at an average of 72 and a strike rate of 99. He was the second-highest run-scorer in 50-over cricket behind teammate Shubman Gill, but Kohli had a stellar World Cup campaign. He scored a record breaking 765 runs which was influential in earning him respect. The 35-year-old player also overtook Sachin Tendulkar's record of most ODI centuries during the World Cup.
