In fact, millets have made a grand comeback in Indian restaurants in China and India’s diplomatic mission in the country is celebrating the International Year of Millets 2023.
The Indian Embassy here plans to organize several events in this regard, including a roundtable to discuss the International Year of Millets 2023 with the participation of representatives of FAO in China. The embassy will also release a book on Mota Anaj Recipe and organize ‘Mota Anaj Cooking Challenge’ and ‘Mota Anaj Selfie Contest’.
Indian restaurants in Beijing, Shanghai and several other Chinese cities have come up with several special dishes made from millets to popularize them among Chinese guests. Beijing’s oldest Indian restaurant Taj Pavilion has prepared a new menu of coarse grains, which include ‘Millet Dhokla’ ‘Gotti Pakori’, ‘Tomato Ragi Omelette’, ‘Chicken Bhuna Sargam’, ‘Barley Mutton Pulao’.

On Monday, Consul General of India in Shanghai Dr N Nandakumar outlined the plans for the event at a press conference with the Chinese media. He said that India is a major producer and consumer of millets in the world and it (millets) can play an important role in food and nutritional security.
