Rain havoc in Chennai
Tamil Nadu got some respite from rain on Tuesday, a day after battling Cyclonic Storm Michong. Now it has started weakening but it will take time for people to recover from the damage this storm has caused to the common people. If we talk about Tamil Nadu, at least 17 people have died in Chennai alone due to the floods that occurred a few hours before the arrival of Michong.
In many cities which were affected by Michong, there is still a huge problem of mobile connectivity. People are also troubled by power cuts. However, the state government claims that it has restored 80 percent power supply and 70 percent mobile network connectivity. The Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu has said that there are 42,747 mobile phone towers in the city, of which 70 percent are currently operational.

Demand for help of Rs 5 thousand crore from the center
The DMK government of Tamil Nadu has sought help from the Central Government after the damage caused by Cyclonic Storm Michong. The Stalin-led government has said that the rains caused by Michong have caused huge damage to the infrastructure in the capital Chennai and many districts. To rebuild the same and to provide relief to the people, the Government of India should send them an interim aid of Rs. 5 thousand crores. The DMK has said that the state government is doing everything within its means, but the damage to the infrastructure is so huge that it cannot be repaired quickly. That is possible only when the Government of India extends a helping hand.
