To deal with this, several efforts were made by the government continuously, but their effect could not be seen much. Now National Highway Authority of India A tunnel is being built, which will go from Shiv Murti to Vasant Kunj National Mandela Marg. In the last meeting of the Ridge Management Board, the board considered the proposal for a 4.3 km long tunnel. For this, the National Highways Authority of India, in its proposal for a tunnel under the southern ridge in Delhi, said that they would not disturb the forest area to make the tunnel. The Ridge Management Board has recommended the Supreme Court appointed project for approval.
This tunnel will be built within 4 years
Due to the construction of the tunnel, the traffic pressure from the National Highway in front of the airport will be reduced and the way to go to the airport will be saved. According to statistics, 3 lakh vehicles will be able to use this tunnel everyday and its construction will be completed within 4 years.
From where will this tunnel start and where will it end?
The tunnel will start from Shiv Murti Chowk on National Highway-48. The most important thing is that the tunnel will connect national highways like Dwarka Expressway, Delhi Jaipur Highway and National Mandela Highway. Officials believe that with the construction of the tunnel, the distance of all the three highways will be reduced by about 8 km. Due to which not only the people of Delhi will get relief from jam but also there will be reduction in pollution. Out of 6 lanes, 3 will be for cars and heavy vehicles while one lane on either side will be for light vehicles and footpath.
Let us tell you that NHAI officials estimate that if everything goes well, after the Dwarka Expressway is ready by August 2023, the traffic pressure on NH48 will increase. In this case the vehicles will be diverted to NH 148 AE i.e. National Mandela Marg.
