Ambikapur Legislative Assembly Seat
Along with Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, there is a stir regarding the assembly elections in Chhattisgarh also. Due to security reasons, elections are being conducted in two phases (November 7 and November 17) in the Naxal-affected state. Election campaign is gaining momentum in Surguja district also. Ambikapur seat under Surguja district is one of the few high profile seats in the state. Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister TS Singh Deo had won this seat in the last elections. This time too, Congress has fielded TS Singh Deo, while BJP has expressed confidence in Rajesh Aggarwal.
How many voters, how much population
If we talk about the election results of Ambikapur assembly seat in the 2018 elections, 22 candidates had presented their challenge here. But the main contest was between TS Singh Deo and Anurag Singh Deo of BJP. TS Singh Deo got 100,439 votes while Anurag Singh got 60,815 votes. TS Singh Deo won by a margin of 39,624 (22.2%) votes.
In the then elections, there were a total of 2,25,830 voters in Ambikapur seat in which the number of male voters was 1,13,061 and the number of female voters was 1,12,744. Out of this, a total of 1,78,140 (79.2%) voters cast their votes. Only 609 (0.3%) votes were cast in favor of NOTA in the elections.
How was the political history?
If we look at the political history of Ambikapur seat, after delimitation in 2008, this seat was declared unreserved. Veteran Congress leader TS Singh Deo has been winning in the last 3 elections. In the elections held in 2008, TS Singhdev had to struggle hard to win. He could win by a margin of just 980 votes in a tough contest against BJP’s Anurag Singhdev. TS Singhdev defeated Anurag Singh Dev by a margin of 19,598 votes in the 2013 elections. In 2018 too, he scored a hat-trick of victories with another big victory. However, in the 2003 elections, BJP’s Kamal Bhan Singh had won.

This time the competition from Ambikapur seat is likely to be tough. Former Nagar Panchayat President and resident of Lakhanpur area, Rajesh Aggarwal has been made its candidate by BJP. Rajesh Aggarwal was earlier in Congress but he joined BJP just before the 2018 elections. This time, BJP has fielded Rajesh Aggarwal by canceling the ticket of Anurag Singh Dev, who had contested thrice from Ambikapur assembly seat. In the last election, Anurag had lost the election against TS Singhdev. TS Singhdev is a three-time MLA from here.
