Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu
Voting for the 2024 Rajya Sabha election for the lone seat of Himachal Pradesh has ended amid reports of cross-voting in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The results will be declared in the evening. Meanwhile, there is a possibility of a big game in Himachal Pradesh. The six Congress MLAs who cross-voted are Inderjit Lakhanpal, Chaitanya Sharma, Sudhir Sharma, Rajendra Rana, Devendra Singh Bhutto, Ravi Thakur and three independent MLAs Ashish Sharma, KL Thakur and Hoshiar Singh.
There is a suspicion that at least nine MLAs have cross-voted. All these 9 MLAs were missing from Himachal Assembly. According to sources, all the MLAs are preparing to go out of Himachal Pradesh.
Meanwhile, sources said the BJP may move a no-confidence motion against the Congress government led by Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu in the state if its candidate wins.

Fear of cross voting of nine MLAs
According to reports, if the Congress candidate loses then it can be estimated that at least nine MLAs did cross voting. In such a situation, if the BJP candidate wins, the party will bring a no-confidence motion against the Congress government.
68 MLAs in Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday cast their votes for the lone Rajya Sabha seat in the assembly in Shimla. Congress currently has 40 seats and three independent MLAs also supported the party and attended the Congress Legislature Party meeting held on Monday.
Government in trouble if Congress candidate defeats!
In Himachal, Congress's Abhishek Manu Singhvi is contesting against BJP's Harsh Mahajan, who was close to late former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. Mahajan, who joined the party in 2022, was a two-time MLA from Congress and was from Chamba. The former minister has also been the Speaker of the Assembly. After the voting was over, the BJP candidate said that some Congress MLAs are unhappy and angry.
Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said, “We have 40 MLAs, if no one goes, we will get 40 votes. I believe that people elected on the ideology of Congress would have voted in support of the party.” Meanwhile, former Himachal CM and leader of opposition Jai Ram Thakur said that the Congress government does not have the necessary support. Tomorrow is the budget. We will wait and see and then decide.”
