In this fight, on one side was Bahadur Shah I and on the other side was his half-brother Mohammad Kam Baksh. The place was- Hyderabad. Very few people would know this story of this great war of brothers!
Bahadur Shah and Kam Baksh were half brothers
Bahadur Shah was the first and half-brother in a less sparing relationship. Kam Baksh was born on 7 March 1667. Kam Baksh was the fifth son of Aurangzeb, the sixth Mughal emperor, born to a Georgian wife, while Bahadur Shah was Aurangzeb’s third son.
Bijapur Fort and Empire Expansion
After Aurangzeb’s death in March 1707, his fifth son Mohammad Kam Bakhsh turned towards Bijapur, after which King Syed Niyaz Khan handed over the Bijapur Fort to Kam Bakhsh. As soon as he got power, Kam Baksh made many changes. Kam Baksh expanded his jurisdiction and conquered Gulbarga and Warkheda. But later on, a dispute broke out between his commander and the Chief Minister in the battle of ambition.
Its whole story reached Bahadur Shah I. Bahadur Shah I warned Kam Baksh by writing a letter so that he should not carry out expansionism. But Kam Baksh ignored the message of Bahadur Shah and attacked the fish monkey. Bahadur Shah I had to go through this exasperation. Bahadur Shah decided to leave for Hyderabad.
Face to face in December 1708
Kam Baksh became alert as soon as he got the information about the arrival of Bahadur Shah I. On 20 December 1708, Mohammad Kam Bakhsh marched towards Talab-e-Mir Jumla on the outskirts of Hyderabad with a huge army. With this, Kam Baksh declared war against Bahadur Shah I.
It is said that three hundred camels were included in his army. Bahadur Shah finally reached Hyderabad on January 12, 1709. Shah also came with full preparation. He trained his soldiers by setting up a training camp.
Overconfidence drowned the less spared
It is believed that Mohammad Kam Bakhsh had deep faith in astrology. An astrologer had told Kam Baksh that his victory in the war was certain. So he was overconfident. But on the other hand there were fifteen thousand soldiers in Bahadur Shah’s army.
On January 13, the soldiers of Bahadur Shah I surrounded the camp of Kam Baksh and during this time Kam Baksh was attacked. Kam Baksh died the next morning on January 14, 1709. Bahadur Shah died on February 27, 1712.
