The deputy chief of the Taiwan Defense Ministry’s research and development unit was found dead in a hotel room on Saturday morning, according to the central news agency.

O Mang Li-hing, deputy head of the Taiwan Army-owned National Chung-shan Institute of Science and Technology, was found dead in a hotel room in southern Taiwan on Saturday morning, CNA reported. The news agency says the cause of the officer’s death is being investigated. The officers were on a business trip to the southern county. The report said the officer had assumed the position earlier this year to oversee various missile production projects.

Taiwan surrounded by tension
Taiwan is currently surrounded by tension and conflict due to Chinese threats and its military exercises. China has activated its army, missile systems and patrol ships in the sea.
