China says it has started exercises involving warplanes, naval ships and missile strikes in six areas around Taiwan. They are located 20 kilometers off the coast of the island, potentially infringing Taiwan’s territorial waters.

Few details are provided by Beijing but it is the training of an army’s ability to perform missions under actual war-like conditions, the US Life Fire exercise allowing Nancy’s journey to proceed. The case was designed to show that China could show a level of force against Taiwan if it decided to make good on distance controls and a pledge to punish those who supported their independence.

attracting American allies
China has warned planes and ships to avoid the areas during the exercise that lasted until Sunday. The drills appear to be a pre-exercise for a possible blockade and attack at a distance. Which will almost certainly attract Taiwan’s main supporter, the United States, as well as American allies including Japan and Australia. Stanford University political scientist Kharis Templeman says that “then something tough needs policy to re-establish the balance. I don’t know how this confrontation will ultimately go, but I think we’re in for a rocky few weeks.”
