National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Monday participated in a security dialogue on Afghanistan in Moscow, which also discussed the changing regional security parameters. Doval started a two-day visit to Russia on Wednesday. Apart from the host country and India, top security officials from Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan participated in the fifth multilateral meeting of the Security Council Secretaries on Afghanistan, the sources said.
He told that various issues including security situation in Afghanistan and humanitarian challenges before it were discussed in the meeting. The third phase of this dialogue took place in New Delhi in November 2021 under the chairmanship of Doval.
Sources said that Doval said that Afghanistan is going through a difficult phase and India has a historical and special relationship with Afghanistan. He said that the well-being and humanitarian needs of the people of Afghanistan is India’s top priority and New Delhi will never leave the people of Afghanistan alone in their time of need.
He said that terrorism has become a major threat in the region. Doval said that there is a need to increase intelligence and security cooperation between the concerned countries and their agencies in dealing with terrorist organizations like Islamic State and Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. Doval also said that no country should be allowed to use Afghan soil to spread terrorism and extremism. He said that the natural resources of Afghanistan should first be used for the welfare of the Afghan people.
