Why is Nepal opposing the Agneepath scheme?
Recently, the Nepal government had postponed the Indian rallies to be held in the Gorkha regiment under the Agneepath scheme in the country. The government has opposed the Indian Army’s Agniveer scheme. There is a violation of tripartite music. In fact, at the time of independence, all three Nepalese citizens can join the Indian Army and the Gurkha regiment of the British Army.
This is the reason that the Gorkha Regiment of the Indian Army currently has about 25000 soldiers of Nepal, but the Government of Nepal has not agreed to allow its citizens in the Gorkha Regiment to become heroic for 4 years under the Agneepath scheme. The recruitment rallies to be held in the districts have been postponed by the Nepal government for the time being. It is believed that the issue of Agneepath scheme may arise on this round of Army Chief.
