This initiative of India will benefit the 55 countries of the African continent, which are members of the African Union. The African Union is the second union to join the G20. The European Union is already a member of the G20.

Declaring permanent membership of the African Union (AU) PM Modi Said, “We had proposed that the African Union be given permanent membership of the G20. I am sure you all agree with this. “With the consent of all of you, I invite the African Union as a member before starting further action.” During this, PM Modi welcomed African Union President Azali Assoumani with a hug, after which he took his seat.

What is African Union?

Let us tell you that African Union is a group of 55 countries. It was established on 26 May 2001 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. However, it was officially launched on 9 July 2002 in Durban, South Africa. It replaced the Organization of African Union. Its contribution to global GDP is Rs 18.81 thousand crore. The objective of the African Union is to discuss the economic and political issues of the country and find permanent solutions to them.
