Eric Garcetti: The US House Foreign Affairs Committee has approved Eric Garcetti, former mayor of Los Angeles, as the US ambassador to India. Tell that, the post of US Ambassador to India was vacant for the last 2 years, in such a situation, Eric Garcetti will take over this vacant post from January 2021. His nomination as US ambassador has been approved by 52-42 in the Senate.
42 votes in favor of Eric Garcetti
A total of 52 votes were cast in the Senate for the US Ambassador to India, of which 42 votes were in favor of Eric Garcetti. And 10 votes were against him. Republican senators Todd Young and Bill Herty also cast their votes in favor of Eric Garcetti, along with all members of the Democratic Party. Notably, Eric Garcetti will replace Ken Juster in New Delhi.
Will assume this post after two years
Ken Juster was regularized by the then Prime Minister Donald Trump and arrived in May 2017 as the US Ambassador to India. In such a situation, after the formation of Joe Biden’s government, he had resigned from his post. Two years later, Eric Garcetti will now assume this position.
