Videos released on local television channels show Fernandez surrounded by his supporters outside his house and getting out of his car to meet people, but in the meantime a man is seen holding what looks like a pistol to the Vice President. He moves towards and fires very close to them.

Although the assailant has not been identified, he was taken into custody within seconds of the attack. The firing incident took place in the Recoleta area of the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires.

According to local cable news channel C5N, Security Minister Annibal Fernandez said, “A man identified by his close friends, who had a gun, has been taken into custody by the (Vice President’s) security personnel. The case is being investigated.”
The minister also said that he cannot say much until the investigation is over. There was no official comment on whether the gun was genuine. Multiple videos being posted on social media show that the pistol had almost touched Fernandez’s face.
Ministers in President Alberto Fernandez’s government issued a statement saying they “strongly condemn the attempted assassination” of the vice president. The statement also said, “What happened tonight is a very serious matter and threatens democracy, institutions and the rule of law.” Former President Mauricio Macri also condemned the attack. “This very serious incident calls for an immediate and thorough explanation by the judiciary and security forces,” Macri said on Twitter.
