BRICS group of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa Ukraine I have expressed concern about the escalating and ongoing conflicts in the world, while supporting all conducive efforts for a peaceful resolution of the situation. The BRICS grouping reiterated its commitment to peaceful resolution of differences, disputes through dialogue.
Foreign ministers of BRICS countries met here on Thursday on the sidelines of the high-level session of the United Nations General Assembly. Foreign Minister of Brazil Carlos Alberto Franco Frank, Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Lavrov, Foreign Minister of India S Jaishankar, Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa Naledi Pander attended the meeting.
emphasis on a peaceful solution
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the minister is committed to respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries and stressed on peaceful resolution of differences and disputes between countries through dialogue and consultation. At the same time, all favorable efforts were supported for a peaceful resolution of the situation in Ukraine. The meeting was chaired by South Africa as it is the one chairing the BRICS for 2023. According to the statement issued after the meeting, the ministers expressed concern about the escalating and ongoing conflicts in many parts of the world. They stressed the need for full respect for humanitarian aid provisions of international humanitarian law, based on the fundamental principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality and liberty.
The need of the hour is to end the war in Ukraine: Jaishankar
Earlier, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar had said in a meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Ukraine that the Ukraine conflict is a matter of grave concern to the entire international community. He had said, the future looks more troubling. The nuclear issue is particularly worrying. Underlining Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Jaishankar said the need of the hour was to end the war in Ukraine and return to the dialogue path. Significantly, Modi had told Putin on the sidelines of the 22nd summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Samarkand, Uzbekistan last week, “Today’s era is not of war.”
