Diseases like skin infections, diarrhea and malaria are rampant in the flood-affected areas of Pakistan. Officials said on Wednesday, 324 people have died due to these. At the same time, the country’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the country is going through the most difficult time at this time.
Hundreds of thousands of people displaced by the floods are living in the open, and the flood waters have spread for hundreds of kilometers. It may take two to six months for this to happen. The stagnant water has given rise to serious health problems.
Displaced families had complained
Due to Pakistan’s already weak health system and lack of support, displaced families have complained of being forced to drink water and cook food stricken with the disease. In such a situation, the officials have also warned that if the necessary help does not reach, then the situation may get out of control.
The country’s disaster management agency said on Wednesday that 555 children and 320 women were also included in the deaths due to diseases. However, these people are not among the 1,569 people who died due to the floods. The devastating floods affected some 33 million out of the 220 million people in the South Asian nation. Damage to homes, crops, bridges, roads and livestock is estimated at $30 billion.
Before this, there was a severe flood in Pakistan 12 years ago i.e. in 2010 as well. During this, 1,985 people lost their lives and more than US $ 10 billion was lost. However, this year the heat broke the record of the last hundred years, while the southeast Sindh province received nine times more rainfall than the average.
