Uttar Pradesh: Now the exercise of installing prepaid smart meters is being started again in UP. The ban on installation of prepaid smart meters has now been lifted. This ban was imposed due to technical reasons. After removing this restriction, KESCO Kanpur has started the process of installing 4G prepaid smart meters. Soon, power companies will start the process of installing smart meters in the rest of Uttar Pradesh as well. Along with this, the consumer council has also raised questions on not taking action against the culprits regarding technical deficiencies in smart meters.
Corporation wrote letter to EESL
Consumer Council President Awadhesh Kumar Verma says that smart meters of high technology should be installed in the state. It is fine given the current environment but there is some problem with his BIS certification. This was revealed in the meeting of the Union Energy Secretary in May, after which Power Corporation wrote a letter to EESL asking what problem has come to the prepaid smart meter and EESL did not respond in this matter.
Smart meter installation work started
In order to prevent power cuts and power theft, the work of installing prepaid smart meters has been started. Under the electricity distribution system, it has been decided to install prepaid and smart meters for all old category electricity customers. For this scheme, the proposed project of Rs.39,602 crore of Mahavitaran Company and Rs.3461 crore of BEST has been recognized. A fund of Rs 10 thousand crore has been required for installation of smart meters.

Benefit to 1 crore 66 lakh customers
Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company is making various efforts to curb electricity theft, in this episode prepaid smart meters will be installed for all categories of electricity customers of the state. According to this plan, by 2024925 the total loss of tantric and commerce will be 12 to 15 percent. The goal is to reduce Apart from this, to strengthen the distribution system, new substations, new transformers, half the work will be done. 1 crore 66 lakh customers will get its benefit.
