CWG 2022: Weightlifter Sanket Sargar won the first medal for India in the Commonwealth Games 2022. Sargar won the silver medal in the 55kg category. Instead of congratulating Sanket, Virender Sehwag wished Hima Das. Sehwag deleted the post and later tweeted the correct one.
Weightlifter Sanket Sargar on Saturday opened India’s medal account at the Commonwealth Games 2022 by winning a silver medal in the 55kg category. Sanket Sargar, 21, found a place on the podium even as he struggled with an injury. Sanket won the first medal for India at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022. The big thing is that Sargar missed out on winning the historic gold medal by just 1kg. He looked to be the champion, but Malaysia’s Bin Kasdan surprised the audience by lifting 142 kg in a clean and jerk lift.
Sanket Sargar lifted the total weight of 248 kg while Kasdan won the gold medal by lifting the total weight of 249 kg. Sargar had earlier also won a medal in the Commonwealth Championships 2021. Sanket Sargar received best wishes from all over the country on winning the silver medal. However, Virender Sehwag, the former cricketer of the Indian team, made a big mistake during this period. He wished Hima Das instead of Sanket Sargar. Internet users caught Sehwag’s big mistake and took a screenshot of it.

The former Indian opener had also realized his mistake and deleted this tweet very quickly. Sehwag had posted his post on a video clip of a Twitter user, who wrote in the caption that Hima Das won the gold medal in the 400m race in Birmingham. Please note that this viral video is from the 2018 IAAF World Under 20 Meet, which took place in Finland.

Please note that athletics events have not yet started in the current CWG. Track and field competitions will begin next week at the Alexander Stadium. Hima Das will participate in the 200m race on 4th August. The semi-finals and final of this event will be held on August 5 and 6 respectively.
However, Virender Sehwag rectified his mistake and made a new tweet, describing Sargar’s achievement. Sehwag tweeted, ‘Well done Sanket Sargar Won the first medal for India in the Commonwealth Games. Great effort. Proud of your silver.
