Harmeet Desai and G Sathiyan got India off to a great start with a 13-11, 11-7, 11-5 victory over Yeon Izak Kwek and Yu In Koen Pang. But the legendary Sharath Kamal could not continue his rhythm. In the semi-finals, Zhe Yu Clarence Chiu lost in the first match of the men’s singles Sharath to beat world ranking 15th ranked player Aruna Qadri of Nigeria. The Singapore player defeated him 11-7, 12 -14, 11-3, 11-9.

G Sathiyan, ranked 35th in the world rankings, then defeated Pang 12-10, 7-11, 11-7, 11-4 to bring India back into the contest. Harmeet Desai then avenged Sharath’s defeat by defeating Chiu 11-8, 11-5, 11-6 in the third singles match to give India the gold medal in the match.

India is currently at the sixth position in the medal tally of the Commonwealth Games 2022. India has so far won 12 medals, of which 5 are gold.
