Targeting Kejriwal, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva has said that the free electricity scheme is nothing more than a vote bank scheme of the Arvind Kejriwal government. Kejriwal now wants to make consumers beg for free electricity every few months.
He said that till last year the government was providing free or subsidized power to all categories of consumers on the basis of billing, but last year it made it a condition for the people to apply to power discoms and demand power subsidy. As a result, the number of people getting subsidy decreased by 25 percent. The reason is that they did not feel comfortable to get subsidy through application. Now the Kejriwal government wants the consumers to demand free electricity again in April and thus lakhs of consumers will be left out again as they will not want to apply for the subsidy.
The Delhi BJP President has said that we fail to understand that if the Kejriwal government really wants to provide benefits of free electricity or subsidy scheme to the people, then why does it not give the first 200 units free of cost to all categories of domestic consumers. Why is it that the moment the consumption reaches 201 units, the consumer is thrown out of the benefit of the free electricity scheme.
The Delhi BJP president said that if Kejriwal really wants to benefit people from free or subsidized schemes or pass on benefits to middle class consumers, he should stop power discoms from arbitrarily increasing electricity meter loads. Discoms charge more from the consumers through this, like meter rent etc. Electricity discoms should not be allowed to increase the electricity meter load on their own, it should be done only when the consumer applies for electricity load increase.
