PM Modi Gujarat Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the ‘Smriti Van’ memorial dedicated to the spirit shown by people during the devastating 2001 earthquake on the second day of his Gujarat tour.
On the second day of Gujarat tour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi did a roadshow in Bhuj till 3KM. During this, people welcomed him with traditional dance. The Prime Minister then inaugurated Smriti Van there. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel was also present with him on this occasion. Earlier, Modi reached Bhuj airport in the morning. Modi is in Bhuj to inaugurate several projects, including a memorial dedicated to earthquake victims, another memorial dedicated to children killed in the 2001 earthquake and a milk processing plant at Sarhad Dairy.
Crowds standing on both sides of the road raised slogans of ‘Modi, Modi’ and waved the tricolor to show their affection for the Prime Minister. Modi stood in his car and shook his hand. He also came out of his car and walked some distance to greet the people.

The local administration had set up platforms along the route for cultural and folk art performances. After leading a roadshow, PM Modi on Sunday inaugurated the ‘Smriti Van’ memorial dedicated to the spirit shown by the people during the devastating 2001 earthquake in the Kutch region. Modi said Smriti Van pays tribute to those who lost their lives in the earthquake and salutes the remarkable spirit of the people of Kutch to overcome this tragedy.

Smriti Van Smarak has been built in an area of about 470 acres. This monument reflects the spirit of the people to recover from this tragedy after the 2001 earthquake that killed 13,000 people. The epicenter of this earthquake was in Bhuj. The names of those who died due to the earthquake are inscribed on the monument. It also houses the state-of-the-art ‘Memory One Earthquake Museum’.

The museum showcases the state of Gujarat after the 2001 earthquake, its reconstruction initiatives and success stories. It gives information about different types of disasters and future preparedness for any disaster. The museum has a 5D simulator, with the help of which the situation during this earthquake can be felt, the release said. Apart from this, another block has been built to pay homage to the dead.
