Patra Chawl Land Scam: In the Patra Chawl land scam case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided the house of Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut for hours after which he was taken into custody. However, he says that I take the oath of late Balasaheb Thackeray that I have no connection with any scam.
Hours after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided the residence of Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut in the Patra Chawl land scam case, he was detained. A large number of policemen were deployed outside his house as his supporters started gathering there. The ED took them with him after taking him into custody. He greeted the party workers present on the spot by raising his hands.
ED officials along with Central Industrial Security Force personnel reached Sanjay Raut’s Bhandup suburb residence ‘Maitri’ at 7 am today and started raids. Meanwhile, Raut, a Rajya Sabha member, has denied any wrongdoing and alleged that he is being targeted to seek political vendetta. Shortly after the ED action, he tweeted that I swear by late Balasaheb Thackeray that I have no connection with any scam. He wrote that I will die, but will not leave Shiv Sena.

What is the whole matter?
Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha and Swapna owned a land in Alibaug which was bought in their joint names. The ED suspects that arrested businessman Praveen Raut, through Swapna Patkar’s estranged husband Sujit Patkar, had bought the land with money diverted from Patra Chawl fraud. Praveen Raut is a friend of Sanjay Raut.

What is the charge of ED?
In April, the ED attached a flat in Mumbai and Alibaug land owned by Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha. The ED had alleged that these properties were purchased with money diverted by Praveen Raut. On the other hand, during the recent searches at the premises of Swapna Patkar, the ED found documents of Alibaug land. Earlier in her statement to the ED, Swapna told that her name was used to buy the land though she had no ownership rights on it and the ownership of the land parcel is under complete control of Sanjay Raut. This whole scam is more than 1 thousand crores.
