19,466 crore to repair 1400 km road network in the next 10 years
Gehlot said that this is a budget dedicated to a clean, beautiful and modern Delhi, in which Rs 19,466 crore will be spent on the repair of 1,400 km of road network over the next ten years. The state government has allocated Rs 2,034 crore for various infrastructure projects.
This is the ninth consecutive budget of the Aam Aadmi Party government. He said, ‘All possible help will be given to MCD to remove 3 mountains of garbage in Delhi. All colonies will be connected with drains and the capacity of waste water treatment plants will be increased to clean the Yamuna river.
26 new flyovers, three double-decker flyovers announced
The budget announced financial assistance of Rs 8,241 crore to the local bodies. Gehlot also proposed 9 schemes in the budget as part of the preparations for the G20 summit. He said that the government would develop and beautify the road network and construct 26 new flyovers. Along with this, three double-decker flyovers will be built in collaboration with DMRC. Apart from this, 1,600 e-buses will be introduced, world-class ISBTs will be constructed and Yamuna will be cleaned.
The construction of 10 flyovers has already started.
Of the 26 flyover projects, 10 are at the construction stage, while plans for 11 have been sent to UTTIPEC (Unified Traffic and Transportation (Planning and Engineering) Centre) for approval. Gehlot said that despite Delhi’s major contribution in central taxes, the Center is giving only Rs 325 crore to it.
All teachers of government schools will get tablet
The maximum allocation in Delhi’s budget was for education. The Delhi government will provide new tablets to all teachers, principals, vice-principals, besides installing new computers in 350 schools in the national capital in 2023-24. Finance Minister Kailash Gehlot has allocated Rs 16,575 crore for the education department in Delhi’s budget for the year 2023-24. The education sector received the highest allocation of Rs 16,278 crore in Delhi’s 2022-23 budget.
20-20 new computers will be installed in 350 schools
The installation of 20 new computers in each of the 350 schools under the Delhi government and the introduction of French, German, Japanese and Spanish in schools of special excellence are the highlights of Delhi’s budget for the education sector.
The minister said that in 2023 more branches of Ambedkar Vishisht Shiksha Vidyalayas would open. There were 20 schools of special education in 2021, which will be increased to 37 in 2023. Gehlot also announced that the school and industry will collaborate to develop professional skills for children in the ‘School of Applied Learning’.
9,742 crore rupees for health sector, 9 new hospitals will be built
Kailash Gehlot proposed Rs 9,742 crore for the health sector in the financial year. Gehlot announced to develop 100 more Mahila Mohalla Clinics in Delhi from the present four.
He said that the number of free medical check-ups would be increased from 200 to 450, which would be available in polytechnics, dispensaries and hospitals as well as Mohalla clinics.
Gehlot has announced that nine new hospitals will be built and four will become operational from this year. The number of hospital beds in the city will be increased from 14,000 to 30,000.
Rs 9,333 crore for the transport sector
Gehlot allocated Rs 9,333 crore for the transport sector. Free bus travel for women will continue. The government will introduce 1,500 e-scooters for last mile connectivity. App-based premium bus aggregator scheme will be launched soon. He said that the Mukhyamantri Teerth Yatra Yojana and Kanwar Shivir will also continue.
The Delhi government has allocated a budget of Rs 4,744 crore for social security with a proposal of Rs 200 crore for pension.
