After this allegation, since Thursday morning, the BJP had started protesting at various places from Kolkata to the district. Protests also took place in the afternoon outside Derozio Bhavan and Vidyasagar Bhavan in Salt Lake’s Karunamoyee. Bishnupur MP Saumitra Khan, Locket Chattopadhyay and other BJP MPs also protested outside Parliament with placards condemning Mamata Banerjee’s government, including recruitment corruption.
No plans to recruit civic volunteers
After criticism from the opponents, West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu clearly said that no decision has been taken on the recruitment of civic volunteers in Bankura schools. He said the government has sought a report from the Bankura district administration and the police as to what prompted them to take the extreme step. He clearly said that no such decision has been taken. We do not approve of such a move. He said that if he took the initiative at the local level, then the consent of the education department was important. The Academic Council of the West Bengal Primary Education Department should also be taken into consideration before taking any such decision.”

Political tussle in Bengal over teaching civic volunteers
Strongly criticizing the initiative of Bankura district police, Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari alleged, “It is actually a plan to close government schools. This year four lakh candidates have decreased. 8207 government schools are running. The number of students is less than 30. At the same time, civic volunteers are being given the responsibility of giving classes to primary students. The state government is plotting to give it to government schools. Union Minister of State for Education Dr. Subhash Sarkar criticized the proposal to provide classes to primary students with civilian volunteers. He said, “I have heard about teaching maths and English through civic volunteers. This is very bad. In such a situation, there is no need to run the government. Let us tell you that this news has come amid the investigation of central agencies against some TMC leaders in connection with irregularities in recruitment to teaching and non-teaching jobs in government and aided schools and the arrest of several big leaders in this connection. Due to this the politics of the state has heated up.
