What did the complainant say?
The complainant told the NGT that Kufri was the first place in India to be developed by the British for the sport of alpine skiing. The country’s first winter sports club was built here. The reason for this was that there were green deodar trees all around. It used to snow here from the end of November to the end of February, but it has happened less than two years.
The complainant said that there are about 700-800 horses in an area of eight to 10 square kilometers. The roots of trees and small plants in the area are getting damaged due to horses. Horse dung can be seen in public places. Horse owners have damaged the Chail-Kufri road by installing machines. This is disturbing the forest and ecological balance in the area. Because of this, Kufri is getting less snowfall than in two years and the water sources in the area are drying up.
