Karnataka From border dispute among Government of Maharashtra Has taken a big decision. Maharashtra government has stopped bus services to Karnataka. transport buses Maharashtra to Karnataka Will not go Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSRTC) Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Shekhar Channe said that this decision has been taken for the safety of passengers going to Karnataka and to avoid damage to their property. He said that the Transport Corporation has decided to stop the bus service after consulting the police.
- This decision has been taken when there was an incident of stone pelting on vehicles entering Karnataka from Maharashtra. The stone-pelting took place near a toll booth at Hirebagwadi in Karnataka’s Belagavi district.
- After this incident, workers of Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) sprayed black and orange paint on at least three Karnataka State Transport Corporation buses in Swargate area of Pune city. Slogans of ‘Jai Maharashtra’ were also written on these buses.
- Apart from this, the Belagavi district administration in Karnataka on Monday issued an order banning the entry of two ministers and leaders of Maharashtra into the city.
- Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had recently demanded the merger of Kannada-speaking areas in Maharashtra’s Akkalkot and Solapur and also said that some villages in Jat taluka of Sangli district wanted to join Karnataka.
- On the controversy, Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that he himself has spoken to the Chief Minister of Karnataka and told him that it is not right for such an incident to happen. If the vehicles of Maharashtra are being attacked then it is not right. I have been assured by the Chief Minister of Karnataka that he will take action on this. I will take this matter to the country’s Home Minister Amit Shah. I think that there should be violence on the matter which is going on in the Supreme Court, it is not right.
- Prior to that, NCP chief Sharad Pawar warned that Maharashtra’s vehicles are being damaged in Karnataka. If the attacks do not stop within 24 hours, the responsibility of what happens next will be that of the Karnataka government. This is a threat to the unity of the country. The central government should mediate on the border dispute. We will see for 24 hours what is the role of Karnataka? If the situation worsens, the responsibility will be of the Karnataka government.
- Pawar further said that panic is being created around Marathi people. Efforts are being made to create an atmosphere of fear. Maharashtra has exercised restraint so far, but now all limits of tolerance are being crossed. Teasing statements are being made by the Karnataka government. It will not work if the central government remains a mute spectator. Karnataka elections are coming near, so this issue seems to be heating up.
- At the same time, Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai insisted that his government is committed to protecting the interests of the border and Kannada speakers. He denied that this issue was related to the 2023 assembly elections. Bommai said that Maharashtra raised the issue and there was a response from Karnataka.
- Bommai said that the issue is before the Supreme Court. Our stand is legal and constitutional, so we are confident that we will win this legal battle.
- The issue of border dispute between the two states started only after the reorganization of states on linguistic basis in 1957. Maharashtra laid claim to Belagavi, which was part of the erstwhile Bombay Presidency, because it has a sizeable Marathi-speaking population. Maharashtra has also laid claim to Marathi-speaking villages that are currently part of Karnataka.
