Shahjahanpur Nagar Nigam Result 2023: Shahjahanpur is going to get mayor for the first time. Till the last elections, there were 16 Municipal Corporations in Uttar Pradesh, Shahjahanpur has been declared as Corporation this time and with this there are now 17 Municipal Corporations in UP. For the last four times, when Shahjahanpur was a municipality, the Samajwadi Party’s flag was hoisted here. However, it would be wrong to call it a stronghold of the SP, because three ministers each of the Yogi government come from this area.
The election of Shahjahanpur Municipal Corporation is not just a political contest but also a battle of prestige. In the Yogi government, ministers Suresh Khanna, Jitin Prasad and JPS Rathore belong to this district and they left no stone unturned in campaigning. The main contest on this seat was between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Samajwadi Party.
Since the formation of the corporation, Shahjahanpur remained in headlines for one reason or the other. Sometimes the reserved seat became a topic of discussion and sometimes the change of face of the mayor candidate became news at the last moment. It started with the formation of a corporation. Then when the reserved seats were announced, this seat remained normal, but in the list that came after the intervention of the court, this seat was declared as a reserved seat for backward class women.

SP candidate took revenge at the last moment
The contest became interesting when Samajwadi Party’s mayoral candidate Archana Verma joined the Bharatiya Janata Party just a day before the nomination. As soon as he joined BJP, the party immediately declared him as its mayor candidate. In such a situation, the BJP got the upper hand and in a hurry, the SP had to nominate the old worker Mala Rathore as its candidate. The candidates of Congress, BSP and Aam Aadmi Party were also seen seeking votes day and night among the public, but the direct contest on this seat of Mayor remained between BJP and SP.
If we look at the voters, there are more than 3 lakh 27 thousand voters in the Municipal Corporation seat. In which there are more than 1 lakh 26 thousand Muslim voters. However, here former SP chairman Tanveer Khan gets good votes from the Hindu community apart from the Muslim community. Suresh Khanna, MLA from the last 8 times had created history by winning this seat for the 9th time, he had divided Muslim votes along with Hindu voters. Altogether, out of 8 candidates for mayor, 5 are Hindu and 3 are Muslim.
