Meerut News: The work of the last and fourth tunnel of RRTS in Meerut has been completed. With this, the work of laying railway track has started here. Services for passengers will start on this track next year.

Meerut: The fourth and last tunnel work of the 82 km long Ghaziabad Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor from Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan has been completed. Now the work of laying railway track will be started on this entire stretch. The breakthrough of the fourth tunnel took place on Friday. Sudarshan 8.3 (tunnel boring machine) has successfully completed the construction work of about 750 meters long tunnel between Gandhibagh and Begumpul station.
According to officials, this is a parallel tunnel between Gandhibagh and Begumpul. Sudarshan 8.3 had completed the construction work of the first tunnel between Gandhibagh and Begumpul in October last year. Two parallel tunnels have been constructed for the movement of trains in the underground corridor of RRTS. Now after the completion of the construction work of the tunnel, the work of laying the track will be started soon.

With the completion of the tunnel work, the work of OHE and signaling etc. will also start. Precast track slab is being constructed at the casting yard of Shatabdi Nagar, Meerut. These track slabs will be taken to the tunnel site through trucks-trailers, where they will be installed. A target has been set to open the entire corridor to the public by 2025.

Trains are going to start operating for passengers soon in the 17 km long priority section of the 82 km long Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor. This section includes Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai and Duhai Depot stations. The sequence of trials continues in this stretch.
