Punjab News: Preparations were completed till morning at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium in Jalandhar for the start of Punjab’s mega sports event ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’. 13 Olympic and Commonwealth Games medal winners were selected for the torch march to be taken out at the stadium.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann reached Jalandhar at four o’clock on Friday evening for the launch of ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’. Here he was welcomed by rain. Due to the rain, the gallery built for the CM and other VVIPs at the Guru Gobind Singh Stadium in Jalandhar for the event was flooded. The sofas and chairs placed on the stage got drenched in water.

These include Baljit Singh Dhillon, Simranjit Kaur Chakar, Rajinder Singh Rahelu, Manjeet Kaur, Vikas Thakur, Gurjit Kaur, Damanet Singh Mann, Swaran Singh Virak, Sukhpal Singh Pali, Harpreet Singh Happy, Suman Sharma, Pranav Chopra and Gurpreet Singh.

More than 1.5 lakh players got registered
For these sports fairs, more than 1.5 lakh players have registered on the portal. Earlier the last date for registration was August 25, but seeing the enthusiasm of the youth, the government extended it till August 30. Players can apply online till tomorrow.
Purpose of channeling the energy of youth in the right direction
The Sports Minister said that Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan is being organized for many purposes. Its first objective is to channelize the energy of the youth in the right direction, so that they do not go towards drugs. The second motive is to provide a platform for the talent of Punjab to flourish. Apart from this, it is also a target to revive the lost sports culture of Punjab. Once upon a time, Punjabis were at the forefront of sports but today the neighboring states have overtaken them.

Renowned singers will entertain the audience
On the occasion of National Sports Day dedicated to the birth anniversary of hockey magician Major Dhyan Chand, famous singers of Punjab will entertain the audience. Punjab’s famous Sufi singer duo Nooran Sisters, Ranjit Bawa and Amrit Maan will entertain the audience in their own way at the inauguration of the Games at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium on National Sports Day.
