Punjab News: To give more boost to sports activities in the state, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced to organize the biggest ever Khel Kumbh on the occasion of National Sports Day. CM Mann reviewed the preparations for this event to be named as Punjab Khel Mela today.
This sports fair, which is going to be held on 29th August, will be dedicated to Major Dhyan Chand, the magician of hockey and an inspiration to the players. The special thing is that more than 4 lakh people will participate in this game Kumbh. Presiding over the meeting, the Chief Minister said that hockey magician Major Dhyan Chand has always been a source of inspiration to lakhs of sportspersons and Punjab Khel Mela will further fuel the spark of sports amongst the budding sportspersons and common people. The initial objective of this sports fair is to identify new talent in the field of sports on one hand and on the other hand to promote sports activities more in the state.
He said that the players of Punjab, who are currently shining in the ongoing Commonwealth Games, have proved that they can show miracles in any field if they get a conducive environment. Bhagwant Mann said that this fair would create a sports conducive environment in the state besides providing a big platform to the youth to showcase their skills.

The Chief Minister said that this would be the first such fair of its kind, in which more than four lakh people including sportspersons and citizens would participate in 28 sports events. He said that this fair would be organized from block to state level, during which a total cash prize of Rs 5 crore would be given to the winners including certificates. Bhagwant Mann informed that during the Punjab Sports Fair there will be different sports events for para athletes as well as for those above 40 years of age.

While ordering the officers to make elaborate arrangements for this fair, the Chief Minister said that no laxity would be tolerated in this regard. He said that this is a unique initiative of its kind by any state government and every officer should leave no stone unturned to make it successful. Bhagwant Mann appealed to the people to participate in this big Khel Kumbh, which lasted for two months with sportsmanship and enthusiasm.
