Delhi: Mayor of Delhi Dr. Shaili Oberoi said that the previous governments of MCD did not even conduct cattle census, let alone work to rid Delhiites of stray animals. There are about 6 lakh stray dogs in Delhi. No census has been conducted in the last 7 years. RWAs and dog lovers will be involved in the scheme to make dog sterilization more effective. Kejriwal government will fulfill every promise. World class model will be implemented to rid Delhi of stray animals.
About 6 lakh stray dogs in Delhi
Mayor of Delhi Dr. Shaili Oberoi addressed an important press conference on the issue of stray animals in the city at Civic Center today. He said that he is worried about the Vasant Kunj incident. As soon as he came to know about the incident, he called an emergency meeting of the officers. After this, today he has also met NGO for sterilization of street dogs, which are associated with MCD. Several flaws in the current system including lack of infrastructure for NGOs have come to the fore during the meetings. There are about 6 lakh stray dogs in Delhi. No census has been done in the last 7-8 years. Apart from this, concrete arrangements were not made for sterilization. Presently there are 20 sterilization centers in the city, out of which 16 are functional. Work will be done to make the sterilization program effective.

Kejriwal government will fulfill every promise
The Mayor directed the officials to prepare a detailed action plan involving RWAs, dog lovers to make sterilization more effective. He said that along with ensuring good care of street dogs in the city, people would be relieved of that problem. He said that Kejriwal government will fulfill every promise. World class model will be implemented to rid Delhi of stray animals. Best practices will be implemented to make the sterilization program more effective. Awara in Delhi is committed to creating a safe and healthy environment for stray animals and citizens. He said that the postmortem report of the children is still awaited. It is not yet confirmed whether the incident happened due to stray dogs or any other reason.
