CSIR is a consortium of 38 research institutes in the country. Senior scientist Nallathambi Kalaiseelvi will hold the post of Director General of CSIR for two years. At the same time, the Union Personnel Ministry in an order issued on Saturday said that senior scientist Nallathambi Kalaiseelvi will succeed Shekhar Mande, who retired in April. After Mande’s retirement, Rajesh Gokhale, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, was given additional charge of CSIR.

It is known that Nallathambi Kalaiseelvi is known for his work in the field of lithium-ion batteries. Kalaiseelvi is currently the Director of CSIR Central Electrochemical Research Institute in Karaikudi. Let us tell you that Kalaiseelvi is originally from Ambasamudram, a small town in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu.
He did his schooling in Tamil medium, which helped him understand science concepts. Kalaiseelvi has more than 25 years of research experience. Kalaiselvi’s research work is mainly based on in-house prepared electrorod materials used in energy storage device assembly for electrochemical power systems and especially electrochemical evaluation.
