Lok Sabha Monsoon Session: Congress MP Manish Tewari said that the inflation rate in the country has been in double digits for the last 14 months, it is the highest in 30 years.
Hitting out at the Narendra Modi-led BJP government over inflation in the country, the Congress on Monday said the “economic mismanagement of the last eight years” of this government is behind the current state of the economy in the country. Congress MP Manish Tewari said this while initiating the discussion on ‘price hike’ under Rule 193 in the Lok Sabha. He also said that with tax and GST on petroleum products, the government would have completed its budget and would have also filled its treasury but spoiled the budget of crores of families in the country and poverty is increasing due to backbreaking inflation. Tiwari said that the economy stands on five points – saving, investment, production, consumption and employment, but it is unfortunate that in the last eight years, the position of all these has weakened.

There was protest against the issue of inflation
The suspension of four Congress MPs was withdrawn today before the discussion on inflation. Congress members were suspended for the rest of the session last Monday for protesting and carrying placards inside the House. These MPs protested only on the issue of inflation. After withdrawing the suspension of these MPs, the deadlock ended in the House as both the sides were ready to discuss inflation.

House had to be adjourned twice
During this, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said, “I will request all the parties of the House that placards should not be brought inside the House. If placards are brought by MPs, I will neither listen to the government nor the opposition and will certainly take action. I am giving them the last chance.” The government had assured the opposition that there would be a discussion on inflation in the Lok Sabha on Monday, but today the House had to be adjourned twice a day amid protests by the opposition parties. However, later the proceedings of the house started with discussion on inflation.
