Srinagar Jamia Masjid: Cinema halls have made a comeback in Jammu and Kashmir after nearly three decades. On Tuesday, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Singha inaugurated multipurpose cinema halls in two districts of South Kashmir, Shopian and Pulwama. Speaking at the inauguration of the Multipurpose Cinema Hall, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Singha said, “Today is a historic day for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The multi-purpose cinema halls in Pulwama and Shopian will provide facilities ranging from film screening, information and skilling to the youth. Let us inform that to see this program, students, youth and youth from different areas of the state gathered in new multipurpose cinema halls in Pulwama and MC Shopian. At the same time, in the midst of all this, a big statement of AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi has come to the fore.
Let us tell you that today i.e. on Tuesday, Asaduddin Owaisi has questioned Lieutenant Governor Manoj Singha about the Srinagar Jamia Masjid on the pretext of the return of cinema halls after nearly three decades in Jammu and Kashmir. Asaduddin Owaisi tweeted, “Sir @manojsinha_ you have opened cinema halls in shopian and pulwama but why srinagar jamia masjid is closed every friday, atleast don’t close it during afternoon matinee show.”

However, after the tweet of Asaduddin Owaisi, the market for discussions on this topic is getting heated. Significantly, since August 2019, the Srinagar Jamia Masjid has remained closed for most of the time. According to the information, it was also kept closed due to corona virus infection. However, before Asaduddin Owaisi, Kashmir’s largest religious organization Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama had urged the Jammu and Kashmir administration to allow Friday prayers at the Srinagar Jamia Masjid. In July, the Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid, while talking to the media, said that the magistrate and senior police officers had come to the mosque and said that Friday prayers would not be allowed in the mosque.
