Delhi High Court of Gujarat cadre on Monday IPS officer Satish Chandra Verma refused to stay the order of dismissal. A bench of Justices Sanjeev Sachdeva and Tushar Rao Gedela asked the Center to file a reply within eight weeks on the plea challenging Verma’s dismissal. If the dismissal becomes effective, Verma will not be able to get many facilities provided by the government. These include things like pension and other retirement benefits, the benefits of which will not be available to Verma.
After investigation, it was found that the encounter was fake
Police officer Verma had investigated the Ishrat Jahan case between 2010-2011. Ishrat and three others were killed in an alleged encounter on June 15, 2004. The deceased were accused of indulging in terrorist activities. Along with this, he was also accused of conspiring to assassinate the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. However, the Special Investigation Team constituted by the High Court, after careful consideration and investigation of the entire matter, found that the encounter was fake.
Court ordered CBI to investigate the matter
Earlier, the Gujarat High Court had ordered the CBI to investigate the matter. Along with this, instructions were given to maintain the service of Verma. Officer Satish Chandra Verma was accused of making statements in the media regarding the encounter. After this, Verma was embroiled in controversies. Because of this, there was a lot of criticism from the Central and Gujarat governments too. It is being told that all these things adversely affected India’s relations with Pakistan.
