GST On Hospital Room: In the GST Council meeting on June 28-29, it was decided to levy 5 per cent GST on those whose rent is more than Rs 5,000 per day.

After the GST meeting, the Finance Minister had informed that from July 18, the prices of many things will increase. There has also been a change in the prices of the items fixed from 18th July. But in the meantime, apart from things like flour, rice, dal, the Finance Minister has given big information, clearing the confusion among the people regarding GST on hospital beds or ICUs.

    Finance Minister gave information

Actually, now Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has given clarification in the Rajya Sabha on the decision to impose GST on the beds of hospitals. The Finance Minister has said that no tax has been imposed by the government on hospital beds or ICUs. Rather, only such hospital rooms whose rent is Rs 5,000 per day is only GST levied on that. The Finance Minister has said these things while replying to the protest on inflation in the Rajya Sabha.

    treatment will be expensive

From the healthcare industry to hospital associations and other stakeholders, there has been a constant demand from the government to withdraw this decision. He says that due to the decision to impose GST on hospital beds, it will become costly for people to get treatment. Also, this will raise compliance issues in front of the healthcare industry as the healthcare industry was till now exempted from GST.

    impact of GST

Suppose the rent for a day’s hospital bed is Rs 5,000, then Rs 250 will have to be paid as GST. If a patient had to stay in the hospital for two days, the room rent would be Rs 10,000 and Rs 10.500 with GST. The longer the patient has to stay in the hospital, the more expensive the treatment will become.

    continuous protest

Actually, already treatment in hospitals has become expensive now. After this, in the 47th meeting of the GST Council from 28 to 29 June, it was decided to levy 5% GST on non ICUs whose rent is more than Rs 5,000 per day. After this, this new rule has come into force from July 18, 2022. But after this, this decision is being criticized continuously. After this, before this, the Finance Minister cleared the confusion of the people by making several tweets. Once again the Finance Minister has presented his clarification on this.
