Himachal Pradesh Assembly Election 2022: The soft stand of the BJP, which has been a constant attacker regarding familyism, was seen in the Himachal assembly elections. The country’s Home Minister Amit Shah gave the slogan of familyism vs developmentism in the initial days of the campaign, but the party did not give much air to it. In fact, along with the Congress, the BJP has also had to resort to the sons of some veteran leaders to settle the political equation of many seats in the state. We will tell you about 5 such leaders who have been handling the political legacy, who were brought into the political fray by the BJP and the Congress.
Virbhadra’s son Vikramaditya is handling the legacy
The Congress fielded Vikramaditya Singh, a veteran Congress leader of the state and son of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, from the Shimla Rural seat. Vikramaditya Singh had won from here in the last election as well. The prestige of the royal family and Vikramaditya is at stake in the Shimla rural seat. His father was the Chief Minister of the state for 6 times and after his death, Vikramaditya was made the king. In Himachal even now the royal family’s tuti speaks.
Congress reposed faith in Rahit Thakur
In Himachal Pradesh’s Jubbal-Kotkhai assembly seat, the Congress has once again fielded Rohit Thakur. Earlier, Rohit had to face defeat from here in the 2017 elections. But in the 2019 by-election, he again grabbed this seat. Rohit is the grandson of former state chief minister and veteran leader Thakur Ramlal and is carrying on his grandfather’s legacy.
Third generation of Bullet family on Palampur seat
Ashish Butail of Congress is carrying forward the legacy of the third generation of his family from Palampur assembly seat. Ashish is contesting from here for the second time, taking care of the legacy he got from Brij Bihari Lal Butail. Kanhaiya Lal Butail was the first from the Bullet family to contest on a Congress ticket. After him Kunj Lal Butail took over the mantle. Kunj Lal Butel fielded his younger brother Brij Bihari Lal Bullet in the election field. Brij Bihari has also been MLA and Assembly Speaker for 5 times from here. After that in 2007, Ashish started politics from here.
Brother and sister fight over inheritance in Mandi
A fight broke out between brother and sister over the political legacy of Mahendra Singh Thakur in Dharampur assembly seat of Mandi district. Mahendra Singh Thakur has won from here for 7 consecutive times. But this time he is not contesting the election. BJP has now fielded his son Rajat Thakur from here. Seeing which the daughter rebelled. He openly opposed his father and brother regarding the inheritance.
5 Chetan Bragta BJP Jubbul Kotkhai
Jubbul Kotkhai seat has given the state three times Chief Minister. Now BJP has made Chetan Bragta its candidate from here. BJP’s Narendra Bragta had won here in the 2017 elections. But in 2021, the Corona epidemic took his life. Congress candidate Rahit Thakur defeated Neelam Saraik of BJP in the subsequent by-election. Due to non-availability of ticket at that time, Chetan contested as an independent candidate. Now he has returned to BJP.
