In the state before the Lok Sabha elections old pension scheme The issue of enforcement has started heating up again. Twenty-four hours ago, the employees’ organizations of UP staged a sit-in in front of the district headquarters across the state demanding restoration of old pension. The leaders of the employee organizations have said that the Yogi government should restore the old pension scheme. The Yogi government is not ready for this.
In such a situation, the “Old Pension System Restoration Joint Forum” formed by the government employees has said that if the Yogi government does not restore the old pension scheme by September, then along with the central employees organizations, the employees of the state will also join the Bharat Bandh movement. On the other hand, the Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP) have supported the employees’ organizations of the state demanding the restoration of the old pension scheme.
Enthused by this, the leaders of the employees’ organizations are saying that when the old pension scheme can be implemented in Punjab, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh, then why it cannot be implemented in UP. The employee leaders of UP are now demanding the answer to this question directly from the Yogi government.
Can’t answer
Answering this question of employee organizations is becoming a problem for the Yogi government. No minister of the Yogi government is answering this question of the employees. In fact, he does not understand how to answer this question. By the way, on February 27, State’s Minister of State for Finance Mayankeshwar Singh had said that it is not possible to implement OPS in UP now. He also said that the new National Pension Scheme (NPS) has been implemented in the state from April 1, 2004.
As on January 31, 5.95 lakh government employees and 3.50 lakh employees of autonomous institutions have been registered in NPS. The National Pension Scheme has been brought with the aim of maintaining balance in the fiscal position of the government and providing security to the government employees, organized-unorganized sector workers and general public in old age.
The leaders of government employees’ organizations in the state do not agree with this statement of the Minister of State for Finance of the Yogi government. They say that when the old pension scheme is applicable in the judiciary and legislature, then why it is not being implemented for government employees and teachers. Now, on the basis of this logic, the leaders of government employees’ organizations are preparing ‘Chakravyuh 2024’ for the restoration of ‘old pension’.
What is ‘Chakravyuh 2024’
Under ‘Chakravyuh 2024’, the employees organizations of the state will run the OPS restoration movement in collaboration with the central employees organizations. Regarding this, government employees of the state will also participate in the demonstrations to be held in different states of the country. During the Lok Sabha elections, the demand for restoration of OPS in every state will be made by going to the election meetings of the leaders.
Apart from this, in whichever state the assembly elections will be held, the demand for implementation of old pension will be prominently raised by the employees’ organizations. Harikishore also says that including government employees working in the country and the state, their families, pensioners and relatives, this number is about 10 crores.
Such a huge force of employees will now raise their voice for their rights. Under which, on March 21, the employees staged a sit-in in front of the district headquarters in every district of the state. In this episode, programs will now be organized in other states. Harikishore says, ballot paper is the most powerful weapon in a democracy. Every political party respects public opinion.
That’s why the Yogi government will also have to announce the abolition of NPS and the need of the hour is to restore OPS in the state. And now all the employees of the country have united for the restoration of OPS. The opposition to NPS has intensified in all the states and the demand for restoration of OPS is being raised rapidly.
Rahul and Akhilesh in favor of OPS
According to Harikishore Tiwari, the governments of Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh have implemented the old pension system. OPS has also been implemented in Jharkhand and Punjab. It is not being implemented in BJP ruled states. While Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has also said many times that OPS is the right of the employees.
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has also given a statement in favor of OPS restoration and said that he will restore it when he comes to power. In Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan too, government employees are seen supporting the Congress government on a large scale. Rajya Sabha MP from Haryana Deepender Hooda has also said that if the Congress wins the assembly elections to be held next year, then the OPS will be implemented in the first meeting of the cabinet.
employees expressed their intention
It has become clear from these statements of the leaders and the activism of the government employees’ organizations that after the strike by the electricity employees in UP, now the government employees will not back down on the demand of restoration of OPS. In such a situation, the demand for restoration of OPS can become a cause of trouble for the Yogi government.
That’s why the Yogi government will have to take some initiative in this matter, otherwise this issue can become an issue during the Lok Sabha elections. This is the view of senior journalist of the state, Ratanmani Lal.
