In April this year, the Delhi Transport Department had launched a campaign ‘Bus Lane Discipline’ to improve road discipline, lane driving and decongest the roads. Under this, it was decided that all types of heavy vehicles, including buses, will ply on the leftmost side of the road and a challan of Rs 5000 will be deducted on those who violate this rule.

According to the officials of the Transport Department, a one-month refresher course will have to be done to get the driving license reinstated. According to a newspaper report, in the months of April and May this year, the Transport Department had issued challans for 44,554 heavy vehicles for violating the rules of the bus line. Of these, 1591 were made for bus drivers for violating the rules of taking challans.

For parking in the bus line, 43 thousand challans of the private vehicle owner were done. Apart from this, 526 vehicles were also lifted with the help of crane for parking at the wrong place. Under the rules framed, the Transport Department had appointed the DTO as the License-in-Authority. Under Section 19 of 1988, he had the power to cancel and reinstate his driving license for three consecutive violations of the rules of the bus line. The Transport Department told the designated officials that the suspension of the license would not be restored until the accused driver had taken a refresher course at the training school of Nand Nagri area DTC.
