Vikas Thakur, a resident of Ludhiana, secured the second position by lifting a total of 346 kg (155 in snatch and 191 kg in clean and jerk). This is his third medal at the Commonwealth Games. He won silver in Glasgow 2014 and bronze in Gold Coast 2018.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann tweeted that Vikas Thakur of Ludhiana has won silver medal in weightlifting at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Development will be given Rs 50 lakh under the sports policy of the Punjab government. My government is committed to extend all possible help and encouragement to the sportspersons of Punjab. Earlier on Tuesday, Mann had announced Rs 40 lakh award for women lifter Harjinder Kaur, who won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games.
Vikas’s best performance was 155 kg
Let us tell you that Vikas Thakur lifted 149 kg in the first attempt of snatch. 153 in the second attempt and 155 kg in the third attempt. In this way, his best performance in the snatch was 155 kg. Welllifter Vikas Thakur lifted 187 kg in his first attempt of clean and jerk. In the second attempt, he improved by lifting 191 kg. In the third attempt, he wanted to lift 198 kg but he failed in it. In such a situation, his best performance in clean and jerk was 191 kg. He lifted a total of 346 kg.
