West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi today. In this meeting, which lasted for about an hour, CM Mamta discussed with PM Modi the release of the arrears of Goods and Services Tax (GST) as well as other issues. The Prime Minister’s Office has shared a picture related to the meeting of the two on Twitter.
In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister, Mamata Banerjee said that she has sought intervention several times with regard to the immediate release of funds for the Gramin Rozgar Yojana-MNREGA, PM-Awas Yojana and PM-Gramin Sadak Yojana. He said that the amount payable to the state under these schemes is now around Rs 17,996.32 crore.
According to the memorandum, the amount owed by the central government to the state till July 31, 2022 is estimated to be around Rs 1,00,968.44 crore. Banerjee has several times accused the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government of delaying the payment of Goods and Services Tax (GST) to states, especially those ruled by opposition parties.
Mamata Banerjee meets President
After meeting PM Modi, CM Mamata Banerjee also met President Draupadi Murmu. Earlier, Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Banerjee met party MPs in Delhi. During this, he discussed about the current session of Parliament and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Sources said that Banerjee’s nephew and party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee was quite vocal during the meeting and suggested what issues the MPs should raise in the last days of the monsoon session of Parliament. Both categorically told the party MPs not to be afraid of the BJP.

NITI Aayog meeting
The Chief Minister of West Bengal will attend the meeting of NITI Aayog on August 7. Prime Minister Modi will chair the Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog on August 7, in which issues related to agriculture, health and economy will be discussed.

Sources said a meeting is also scheduled with non-Congress opposition leaders like TMC, TRS and AAP on Saturday. Mamta Banerjee can also meet Sonia Gandhi in Delhi. In the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament, there have been several occasions when the Congress and the TMC have been divided. Mamta Banerjee reached the national capital Delhi on a four-day visit on Thursday.
