Chief Justice: Justice Uday Umesh Lalit is going to take oath as the 49th Chief Justice of India today. President Draupadi Murmu will administer the oath of Chief Justice of India to Justice Uday Umesh Lalit at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The new Chief Justice of India, Lalit is an expert in criminal law. He has worked as Special Public Prosecutor of CBI in 2G case. Apart from this, he has also been the chairman of the Legal Services Committee of the Supreme Court for two consecutive terms.
Will retire on November 8
Uday Umesh Lalit, the new Chief Justice of India was born on 9 November 1957 in Solapur, Maharashtra. He was enrolled as an advocate in Maharashtra and Goa Bar Counseling in June 1983. He then practiced in the Bombay High Court until December 1985, before moving to Delhi in January 1986. CJI NV Ramana retired yesterday on 26 August. After which Justice Uday Ramesh has been appointed as the Chief Justice of India. On the other hand, the tenure of the new Chief Justice Ramesh Lalit will be less than 3 months and he will retire from his post on 8 November.

Deliver important decisions as a judge
The new Chief Justice of India, Lalit, has delivered many important decisions as a judge of the Supreme Court. The most important of these are the triple talaq, the claim of the Travancore royal family on the Padmabhaswamy temple in Kerala and the law related to POCSO. In the year 2019, Justice Uday Umesh Lalit made headlines by separating himself from the five-judge bench hearing the Ayodhya case. Behind this, he had argued that about 20 years ago he had been the lawyer of former UP Chief Minister Kalyan Singh in a criminal case related to the Ayodhya dispute.
