The value of the stolen idols is said to be Rs 3 crore. It is being told about the incident that the idol was stolen from Thakurbari of Baniapur police station area late on Monday night. On Tuesday morning, when the priest went to open the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, the grill of the temple was broken and all three Mirtis were missing.
The priest informed the people about this. Then the local people informed the police administration. After this the police reached the spot and started investigating the matter. Here the news of theft of idols from Thakurbari spread like wildfire. A crowd of people gathered there.
'Fast unto death if statues are not found'
Regarding the incident, local people told that the idol was more than 500 years old. People said that the cost of the idols was more than Rs 3 crore. In the same case, Rameshwar Das, the chief priest of Thakurbari temple, told that like every day, he performed aarti on Monday night and went to sleep. When the door was opened for worship on Tuesday morning, the idols were missing. Then this information was given to the villagers and the police. Priest Rameshwar Das said that if the idol is not recovered within 48 hours, he will fast unto death.
