Uttarakhand: The Anti-Conversion Amendment Bill with strict provisions was passed in the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, in which it is considered a non-bailable offense. In this, a provision of punishment ranging from 3 years to 10 years has been kept for the culprits of forced conversion. The Uttarakhand government had introduced the bill in the assembly on Tuesday, 29 November. Presenting it, the state’s Minister of Religion and Culture, Satpal Maharaj, had said that “According to Articles 25, 26, 27 and 28 of the Constitution of India, it is for the prevention of difficulties in the objective of equally promoting each religion.” The amendment bill has been brought.”
The bill provides for punishment as well as fine
The Uttarakhand Religion Freedom Amendment Act 2022 was passed by voice vote on the second day of the winter session of the Vidhansabha. In this bill, along with the provision of punishment of 3 to 10 years, a fine of at least 50 thousand rupees has also been kept. Apart from this, a compensation amount of at least Rs 5 lakh may have to be paid at any time, which can be given to the victim. According to the Bill, “no person shall convert or attempt to convert another person from one religion to another, directly or indirectly by force, inducement or fraudulent means; no person shall abet or conspire in such conversion.”

Provision of ‘horizontal reservation’ for women
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has also tweeted for this. He has written in the tweet that today the Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion Amendment Act 2022 was passed by the house in the assembly. Under which a provision of punishment of up to 10 years has been made on conversion. Apart from the strict law related to conversion, the Uttarakhand government also introduced the Uttarakhand Public Service Bill 2022 in the state assembly. Under which provision of ‘horizontal reservation’ up to 30% in state services to women is proposed for the purpose of gender equality.
