Political activities are intense in Punjab regarding the Lok Sabha elections. Two cracks are visible in the India alliance. An alliance has not been formed between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress and both the parties have taken separate paths. Meanwhile, the alliance between Shiromani Akali Dal and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state has almost been finalized, the formal announcement of which is possible any time. However, sources say that now the issue between the two parties is only on seat sharing. The alliance will be announced as soon as the seat issue is resolved. Not only this, alliance with TDP in Andhra Pradesh and with RLD in UP is also considered final.
According to sources, Shiromani Akali Dal, like the old formula, wants to contest 8 out of 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab itself and wants to give 5 seats to BJP, whereas BJP wants more seats this time and the support is increasing in the Center and other states. Taking the support base as its basis, Akali Dal wants to contest on 7 seats and herself on 6 seats. The seat sharing formula can be decided in the next 1 to 2 days.
The alliance was broken due to the farmers' movement
It is being told that the alliance can be announced after assessing the situation of the proposed farmers' movement on 13 February. Under the alliance formula and as per the old tradition, Shiromani Akali Dal will still remain in the role of elder brother of BJP. The alliance of both the parties broke in the year 2020 due to the farmers' movement. After this, Akali Dal contested the 2022 assembly elections separately from BJP and had to face a crushing defeat. Now the party is once again eager for an 'alliance' so that the lost support base can be brought back. BJP is expected to win its third consecutive victory in the Lok Sabha elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has claimed in Parliament that this time BJP is going to win 370 seats and NDA is going to win 400 seats.
