The change in the atmosphere of Ayodhya is that neither ‘Shaurya Diwas’ will be celebrated by Vishwa Hindu Parishad on December 6, nor will the Muslim side celebrate it as ‘Black Day’ this time. The Ram Janmabhoomi dispute came to an end with the Supreme Court’s decision in 2019. People from both the communities have proceeded for a peaceful atmosphere and there will be no events today to mark the anniversary of the mosque demolition. Ayodhya’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Muniraj ji said that the situation in Ayodhya is peaceful and we have made regular arrangements for December 6.
Construction of huge Ram temple
It seems that both the parties are more concerned about developing their respective new structures (temple-mosque) on the land provided to them by the Supreme Court’s judgment. Champat Rai, secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, who has been entrusted with the task of building the huge Ram temple, has already said that devotees will be able to offer prayers at the new temple from January 2024.
PM laid the foundation stone of temple construction
In August 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. Since then the work of temple construction is going on at a fast pace. Athar Hussain, secretary of the Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation Trust, has also said that the Ayodhya mosque will be ready by December 2023. Athar Hussain is handling the responsibility of building a new mosque on five acres of land provided by the order of the apex court.
good atmosphere in ayodhya
Krishna Kumar, who runs a shop on the main road near the Maniram Das Cantonment area, recalls how Ayodhya has changed over three decades. He said that I am the owner of this shop for the last 35 years and I can say that today the atmosphere in Ayodhya is good. There is no tension or anything like that between Hindu and Muslim community. We all live peacefully.
Programs are not held on 6th December
He said, I was about 20 years old when the demolition happened, then the atmosphere was also ‘Rammay’. Kar sevaks had come from outside and there was tension then, but there was no such fear. Vishwa Hindu Parishad spokesperson Sharad Sharma said that after the Supreme Court’s decision in favor of the Hindu side, the way for the construction of the Ram temple was paved, after which the various programs to be held on December 6 gradually became quiet.
Resolution of construction of Ram temple fulfilled
He said that as far as the Shaurya Diwas to be celebrated on December 6 is concerned, it has been completely canceled because our main resolution has been fulfilled and after that we want a peaceful environment. That’s why it was unanimously decided that no such event should be organized which could create any kind of tension or hurt anyone.
‘Quran Khani’ program in two mosques
However, the Muslim side still feels that the families of those killed after the Babri demolition are yet to get justice. Like the last several years, on December 6, two ‘Quran Khani’ (recitation of Pak Quran) programs are being held in Ayodhya. Mohammad Azam Qadri, secretary of Anjuman Muhafiz Masjid Makabir Committee, Ayodhya said that the demolition of Babri Masjid has completed 30 years and it is the time when we remember those killed in the violence. We do not have any complaints against anyone, but still those who were killed did not get justice.
Muslims usually pray for those who were killed during the violence and Quran Khani is organized at some places on December 6 for the peace of the departed souls. He said that we are doing a program of Quran Khani in two mosques in Ayodhya.
Earlier Ayodhya used to become a cantonment.
Another local resident, Mohammad Shahid Ali, recalls how he was rescued by his Hindu neighbors along with several other Muslims when the mob turned violent. The VHP leader said that we do not want to do any work that harms trust and communal harmony. Nimit Pandey, a local businessman, said that the situation in Ayodhya is peaceful. For those living here, December 6 is like any other day. A few years ago, there used to be a large number of police deployment, but now nothing like this happens.
While in previous years the district used to turn into a fort around December 6 with a heavy police force, this time the officials are treating it as a regular occurrence. The SSP said that police teams deployed at eight major entry and exit points of Ayodhya and police teams deployed around the Ram temple complex have also been asked to be alert.
