When the country was partitioned, after that the work on this station stopped and this station became deserted. When goods trains started on this route in 1978, then again the sound of whistles started echoing here.
Who doesn’t have the hobby of traveling abroad? Thinking like this, the idea of air travel comes to mind. But do you know that there are many such areas in the country from where one can go abroad on foot. This is possible from the border areas adjacent to the neighboring countries. Take the example of Nepal, which is surrounded by Indian borders on three sides. Jogbani is a place in Araria district of Bihar. This is the last railway station in India, where one can get down and go to Nepal on foot. One such last station is Singhabad, which falls in West Bengal.
The name of this last railway station of India is Singhabad. This station is in Habibpur area of Malda district of West Bengal. Although there is nothing special in this station, but it is the last border station of India, which is close to the border of Bangladesh. This is the station of the British Raj and as the British had left this station, even today the picture has not changed much. It is located and is adjacent to the border of Bangladesh.
Singhabad is so close to Bangladesh that people walk a few kilometers to Bangladesh. Not many people are seen at this small railway station. This railway station is used for transit of goods trains. Two passenger trains named Maitri Express pass from here.
After India’s independence, when the country was partitioned, after that the work on this station stopped and this station became deserted. When goods trains started on this route in 1978, then again the sound of whistles started echoing here. Earlier these vehicles used to travel from India to Bangladesh. After the amendment of the old agreement in November 2011, the neighboring country Nepal was also included in it.
Signals, communication and equipment related to the station have not been changed at this station, rather everything is running on the old pattern. Here hand gears are still used for signals. Railway employees are also here only in name. The ticket counter here has been closed. Only goods trains wait for the signal, which have to go to Bangladesh via Rohanpur.
