Now Rahul Gandhi New Passport Will be able to get it done which will be valid for three years. Recently, Rahul Gandhi had filed a court petition for issuing NOC for 10 years for passport. Although Subramaniam Swamy opposed it.
Rahul needed this NOC because he is an accused in a case related to National Herald. In India, if such a person wants to get a passport to go abroad, on whom there is a case, then he has to take NOC from the court. If this NOC is not taken then the passport of the concerned person cannot be made.
Why does Rahul Gandhi need a new passport?
Diplomats and senior officers in India are issued separate passports from common people. This is called Diplomatic Passport. Rahul Gandhi had this passport till now. Recently, a court in Surat sentenced him to two years in a defamation case. After this his parliament membership was revoked. For this reason, he had to surrender his passport. Now Rahul Gandhi does not have any passport, since he has to go abroad, therefore passport is needed. Now he is not a diplomat, so he has to get a normal passport of blue color which is for the common man.
How different is a diplomatic passport from a normal one?
Blue colored passport is issued to common people in India. Its holder does not get any additional facility, while the diplomatic passport is available to public representatives, senior officers of the Government of India. This passport holder gets many facilities, he gets many facilities in traveling abroad including Indian Embassy.

- The one who has this passport is not checked at the airport like common people, there is a special way for them.
- There is exemption in those international laws which are given to the diplomat of any country.
- Passport holder gets free conveyance facility. They don’t even have to pay tax on travel.
- Diplomatic passport holders are exempted from visa rules, many countries are allowed to travel without visa
- It is not easy to file a case against a diplomatic passport holder abroad.
In which case is Rahul an accused?
Rahul Gandhi is facing a case related to the National Herald case, which was filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy. He had accused them of wrongfully occupying the Herald House building. His argument was that Associate Journal Limited was acquired by Young Indian Limited in a wrong way. Apart from Sonia Gandhi, he had accused Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders of cheating in this case. Rahul Gandhi is out on bail in this case.
Why asked for NOC from the court
After applying for a normal passport, police verification is required for any person, but if a criminal case is registered against him, or he is on bail in a case, then he needs NOC for passport. Which can be given only by the court. Because of being on bail, Rahul Gandhi filed a petition in the court seeking NOC for 10 years, although the court granted him NOC only for 3 years.
