Now it is a museum. It has been dedicated to the country. Architect Abha Narayan Lamba has been taking care of it since 2013. He said- Sonia Gandhi, who is the trustee, has taken full care of it.
Motilal Nehru bought Swaraj Bhavan for Rs 20,000. Earlier its name was Mahmood Manzil. Swaraj Bhavan had 42 rooms. These properties worth crores were donated to the Indian Congress in the 1920s.
He bought another big property near Civil Lines. He named it Anand Bhawan. There were one to one unique and valuable items and furniture in it. The furniture of Anand Bhavan came from Europe and China. It was dedicated to the country by Indira Gandhi in 1970 by forming a trust.
How much was Nehru’s property across the country?
According to a figure, after the country’s independence in 1947, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru’s property was around 200 crores and he had dedicated 98 percent of his total property to the country. When Nehru became the Prime Minister, he was counted as a famous rich man of the country. After this, he donated his properties in the construction of the country.

Many industrialists had donated their properties for the development of the country, at the same time Jawaharlal Nehru also donated 98 percent of his property. Then he had assets worth 200 crores. Patel said about Nehru’s donation
The differences between Nehru and Patel are often debated and new facts are put forward. But very few people would know that Sardar Patel had praised Nehru’s donation. He wrote – No person has made more sacrifices than Nehru in India’s freedom struggle and no family has suffered the most for Indian independence as Nehru’s family.
He further wrote – Motilal Nehru gave up his livelihood, handed over his magnificent mansion to the soldiers of the freedom movement. And himself moved to a small house.
Institutions named after Nehru in the country
In the year 2013, an RTI revealed that there are 450 schemes, buildings, projects and institutions in the name of the Nehru-Gandhi family across the country. Many educational institutions were opened in the country in the name of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Many institutions were established. Among them, Delhi-based Jawaharlal Nehru University is there for higher education and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya across the country for children’s education.
Apart from these, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Pondicherry, Jawaharlal Bharati College, Kavali, Andhra Pradesh, Jawaharlal Nehru Center for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore, Karnataka, Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering, Shimoga, Karnataka etc.
