UP has provided free Wi-Fi at 768 stations, Maharashtra at 566 stations, West Bengal at 510 stations, Andhra Pradesh at 509 stations and Rajasthan at 463 stations.
Union Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronic and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnav said that strengthening the Digital India Initiative, Indian Railways is providing free high-speed Wi-Fi service at 6,108 stations so far for the convenience of passengers. In response to a question in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, he said that the provision of Wi-Fi at stations depends on the availability of basic infra like optical fiber cable and other resources.
Which states have WiFi at how many stations?
Uttar Pradesh ranks first in terms of setting up free Wi-Fi at most stations under PPP, followed by Maharashtra, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan. UP has provided free Wi-Fi at 768 stations, Maharashtra at 566 stations, West Bengal at 510 stations, Andhra Pradesh at 509 stations and Rajasthan at 463 stations. According to an official statement, RailWire customers need not buy a prepaid Wi-Fi plan at railway stations and can use their RailWire Fiber to the Home (FTTH) subscription on RailTel’s Wi-Fi network.

The minister informed that the total number of employees in Indian Railways as on 01 February 2023 is 11,75,925 and there is no proposal to privatize Indian Railways. In order to improve railway services, outsourcing of some services like station cleaning, pay and use toilets, rest rooms, parking etc. is being done on the basis of requirement.
